You cannot wake up and make your own laws Makinde fires AGF over Amotekun

Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde on Wednesday reacted to the attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami decision to declare Amotekun illegal.

Makinde said this while speaking to the media after meeting with former president Obasanjo in Abeokuta.

He said the Attorney general’s duties are limited to interpreting laws.

Makinde further said the attorney general office didn’t contact him or any other south west governors about the decision, urging the public to regard the statement credited to the attorney general as rumours.

The AGF cannot just wake up and make his own laws, he stated.

Subsequently, the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu in an interview on Channels Television said AGF’s job is to interpret laws.

He said; One thing is clear, laws are not made in the office of the Attorney General; he can only interpret the laws and give positions of government on matters relating to the law.

When he comes out with relevant portions of the law on the matter, we will consider it and respond adequately as the law stipulates.

We have not met, but I can assure you that when we meet, we will adequately respond to the position of the AGF.
