Shelley’s first acting break happen in Chicago, where she began doing commercials and joined The Second City comedy troupe. She later began writing, producing, and co-hosting the television program, Sorting It Out on WMAQ-TV in 1975.
Her contribution and work on the show earned her three Regional Emmy Awards. Shelly also appeared in the V05 Shampoo print advertisements and commercials for Homemakers Furniture and Candy Soap in the1970s.
