Born on August 19, 1982, in North Bergen, New Jersey, Melissa Gallo grew up in New Jersey with Maximilian and two sisters, Julia and Johanna.
Her father, Carlos Gallo, was an Archaeologist, and her mother, Martha Gallo, was a travel guide. Her parents are of Cuban descent. Melissa lived in Guttenberg, New Jersey, until 6 when her parents moved to Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Her parents, who wanted her to be active, enrolled her in acting and dancing classes early.
While in high school, Melissa featured in theatre production and was also an active participant in her church choir.

After high school, at age 19, she moved to New York City, where she attended New York University, undertook a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, and majored in drama.

On January 20, 2004, she joined the series and decided not to renew her contract with the series in 2007.

Melissa’s big-screen debut came in 2009, with the independent film “Tiny Dancer,” She played the lead role.
In 2010 she made another screen appearance in the CW’s Gossip Girl, which featured her in five episodes as Zoe.
Then, Melissa was cast in 2013, Fox/ NBC’s series, ‘Brooklyn Nine-nine,’ playing the role of Amy Santiago, the lead female opposite.
Aside from starring in the series, Melissa made her directorial debut in 2019 by directing the season 6 episode of the said series titled ” Return of the King.”

She is married to her “One Life to Live” co-star, David Fumero. The couple met on the set of One Life to Live, which David also starred in.
Like the actress, he is also Cuban and was his teen crush when he was a model. However, when they finally met on set, Melissa did not recognize David as her teenage crush due to the age difference of ten years.
However, after getting to know each other better outside work, the couple began a romantic relationship and tied the knot in a private wedding on December 9, 2007.
It led to her change of name from Melissa Gallo to Melissa Fumero.
While filming season 3 of ‘Brooklyn Nine-nine,’ the actress was heavily pregnant.
