Kaaris is an Ivorian-born French rapper, record producer, and composer signed to Tallac Records.
Okou Eli Armand Olivier Gnakouri, popularly known as Kaaris, was born on January 30, 1980, in Cocody, Abidjan, to Ivory Coast parents.
He grew up as the son of emigrants in Sevran, Paris. Not much is known of the Ivorian rapper’s life before fame or his parents.
His rapping career started in 1999, and he released his first mixtape in 2001. He was part of the hip-hop collective RGT in Sevran.
He decided to return to Ivory Coast to stay for a while but had to move back to France due to the uprise of political unrest.
In 2007, he released his street album “Quarante-troisième Bima,” known as 43ème; the album’s success led to his signing into the music label French Cut Music.
Later on, he met with French rapper Booba and music producer Therapy, who allowed him to feature in Booba’s song “Criminelle league,” which was released as part of Booba’s Autopsie Vol. 4.
His steady rise in fame had begun by this time, and he had his first charting hit, “Kalash,” which was credited to Booba as a single in Booba’s album Futur.
He co-writes most of his music with a record producer duo made up of producers in 2031 and 2093.
In August 2018, a fight ensued between Booba and Kaaris at Hall 1 in Paris Orly airport, leading the airport authorities to shut down the hall temporarily.
He was then suspended for 18-month and fined €50,000 for the scuffle.
