Jodhi Tania May was born in 1975 as Jodhi Tania Hakim-Edwards in Camden Town London, to Jocelyn Hakim, an art teacher, and Malcolm McLaren, an artist-designer.

Her mother Jocelyn Hakim in 1972 arranged to be married to her father Malcolm McLaren in other to obtain citizenship and paid him £50 to do so, and they later got divorced.
Jodhi has not publicly identified her father. Besides stating that he is German, she later had her name changed legally to Jodhi Tania May.
She attended the Camden School for Girls and studied English at Wadham College, Oxford, where she had her master’s.
Career
May started acting from an early age. She served in A World Apart, which earned her an award as the Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival in 1988.
She appeared in The Last of the Mohicans as Alice Munro in 1992 and as Lea Papin in 1994 Sister My Sister.
While she was in college, May read much literature, which led to her writing and directing a short film called Spyhole in 2002.
Other notable roles include Lady Sarah Lennox in Aristocrats, Florence Banner in Tipping the Velvet, and Sabina Spielerin in the play The Talking Curse.
In 2005, May appeared in Blackbird by David Harrowed at the Edinburgh Festival, and the play went on to win the Best New Play Award.
She also starred in “A Quiet Passion” in 2016.

In Mark Haddon’s play Polar Bears produced in 2010 at the Donmar Warehouse, May played the lead role.

May appeared in the HBO series Game of Throne season 5 In 2015, where she played the role of Maggy Frog, a fortune teller.
While in 2019, she played the role of Queen Calanthe in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series, The Witcher.
