Ellen briefly modeled with Ford Models and Rascals Agency before deciding to pursue a career in acting.

She appeared as the daughter in the film “The Young Girl” and the “Monsoon” in 1999, which earned her praises for her acting range from Stephen Holden of The New York Times.
In the early 2000’s she appeared in “The Beat,” later followed by a role in “Law & Order” and also “Cora Unashamed,” a Langston Hughes short story.
Ellen also appeared in The Truth About Jane, playing the lead role.
Subsequently, she starred in the Showtime series “Dead Like Me,” a 2003 to 2004 series, playing the role of Georgia “George” Lass, one of the grim reapers.
This role soon became one of her best, as it brought her to fame.
In 2007, Ellen appeared in “Jack ‘n’ Jill,” an MFA thesis film.
She also voiced Addie Vost, a character in the animation “Tofu the Vegan Zombie.”
