Davido is an American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, and music producer who rose to fame in 2012 with his hit song “Dami Duro.”
Early Life
David Adedeji Adeleke was born on November 21, 1992, in Georgia, United States, to famous Nigerian businessman Chief Adedeji Adeleke and his wife, Dr. Veronica Adeleke, a university lecturer.
The singer has three siblings, Adewale, Sharon, and Coco. His father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, is the founder and president of “Adeleke University,” located in the Osun State of Nigeria.
He is also the CEO of “Pacific Holdings,” where the singer and his siblings are among the board of directors. In 2003, the talented singer lost his mother.
According to him, his love for music began from quite an early age, as he had learned the art of entertainment from his mother, who he named his source of inspiration.

Davido had his primary education at “The British International School,” Lagos. At 16, he moved back to the united state where he studied business administration at ‘Oakwood University,’ Alabama.
However, due to a growing interest in music, Davido bought musical equipment and eventually started making music.
The duo formed the “KB International,” a music artist with his cousins B-Red and Sina Rambo. Subsequently, he dropped out of the university to focus solely on music.
After dropping out, Davido relocated to London, where he took singing lessons.
Then, in 2011, he returned to Nigeria and was enrolled at Babcock University to study music.

Davido’s music career began in 2011, following his debut single “Back When” on May 7, 2011.
The song from his debut studio album “Omo Baba Olowo,” released in 2012, features Naeto C, Sina Rambo, B-Red, Kayswitch, and Ice Prince.
His second single, “Dami Duro,” was a commercial success, recording several plays within and outside Nigeria.
Although his debut album wasn’t well-received by music critics, it won Best R&B/Pop Album and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2013 Headies Award and Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
In 2013, Davido released “Globe,” the lead single of his second studio album, “The Baddest.
“The track was a commercial hit, peaking at No.2 on the “Premium Times” list of ‘Top 10 of 2013. “Skelewu,” another single from the album, was ranked No.5 on Premium Times’ list of the top 10 songs of 2013.
In June 2014, the singer alongside Lola Rae, Tiwa Savage, Mi Casa, and Diamond Platinumz recorded the song “Africa Rising” for the Rising African campaign, which motivates Africans to participate in a community-based social investment project.
His second album, The Baddest, scheduled to be released in June 2015, was delayed following the singer signing a record deal with “Sony Music.”
The agreement, made in January 2016, was confirmed by the music label in a press release.
A few months after signing the deal, Davido founded his record label known as “Davido Music Worldwide” (DMW).” Dremo, Mayorkun, Yonda, and Peruzzi are currently signed to his record label.
In July 2016, the singer was signed to RCA Records, an affiliate of Sony following the record label altering the release plans for “The Baddest.”

That same year, Davido released an EP “Son of Mercy,” with five tracks. In 2017, the singer won the Best African Act at the MOBO Awards. That same year he released the single “If” on February 17.
The single was a commercial success. It was certified diamond by the Recording Industry of South Africa, following shipments of 200,000 units. The song was also awarded Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at 2018 The Headies.
That same 2017, on June 2, Davido released another single, “Fall,” which, like “If,” was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa.
The song was a top-10 record on Shazam in New York and became one of the top-100-most-Shazam-searched singles in America in January 2019.
In addition, it became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history the following month.

That same year he collaborated with Chris Brown to release the single “Blow My Mind.
