Daddy Showkey is a Nigerian galala singer and one of the veterans of the Nigerian music industry. He names his genre of music Ghetto Dance. You can refer to it as Ghetto.
His musical career started from Ajegunle in the latter part of the 1990s, and he became very popular there. Daddy Showkey’s birth name is John Asiemo, but his fans in the Ghetto referred to him as Daddy Showkey.
Strangely enough, many people do not know his real name to be John Asimo. Daddy Showkey was born in 1969, on the 4th of August of that year, to be precise.

He got the nickname via a family member called Showboy several years back.

He then decided to be called Showkid from his childhood.
The name was changed to Showkey by his friends. He started with a group of boys in Ajegunle ghetto, and the name of their band was “Sexy Pretty Boys.
Daddy Showkey is unarguably the first Nigerian artist to start the Nigerian Dancehall style.
He made up his mind to use Pidgin English for his lyrics instead of the Jamaican patois.
The dance steps he invented had contributed a great deal to the dancehall scene in Nigeria.
