Celebrities Whose Parents Showed Up Only After They Became Famous
Yea, we know stuff happens, circumstances beyond our control and all that, but the worst thing a parent can do is abandoning a child.
Though this is rather unfortunate, we tend to see this happen around us more often than we want.
Plus, it can happen to anyone, including celebrities whom a single parent raised, and all efforts to reach the other proves impossible, only for them to have this estrange parent reaching out to them after they become famous.

Sometimes such estrange parents want to reconcile with the child out of pure love, regretting their actions, while other times out of dishonorable and dubious reasons.
If the reason behind the reconciliation is out of regret, that’s good but when it is due to their gain, that’s is terrible, like the stories of the following celebrities whose parents only showed up after they became famous.
Celebrities Whose Parents Showed Up After They Became Famous
- Eminem
American rapper Eminem talks about his childhood a lot. If you are a fan or listen to him, you will find out that a single mom raised him.
His dad walked out of the family when Eminem was just a boy; thus, things were hard for him financially.
He tried reaching out to his father, but his father wanted nothing to do with the star until he discovered that Eminem had become world-famous.
In 2001, Eminem’s dad contacted a tabloid newspaper where he wrote a letter apologizing and begging to be part of the rapper’s life, but Eminem was not having any of that.
- Keanu Reeves
The same story applies to Award winner actor Keanu Reeves, whose father left him when he was just three years old.
His mom raised him, and at the height of his career in the 90s, when Keanu became one of Hollywood’s A-list actors, his father reached out to him and wanted to get in touch, but the actor was interested.
- Britney Spears
American singer Britney Spears from her documentary revealed that her father wanted nothing to do with her. But this soon changed once she became famous.
When the singer struggled with personal issues in the 2000s, her father was granted her conservatorship and had total control of her finances.
- Quentin Tarantino
A single mother raised world-famous movie director Quentin Tarantino. His father left when Quentin hadn’t been born, and he and his father never met.
But that changed when he became a famous director, and his father realized he wanted to be an actor and tried obtaining favors through sharing the same last name with Quentin.
- Adele
Also raised by a single mom, award-winning actress Adele has her mother, Penny, to thank for introducing her well.
Her dad left when she was two years. However, she occasionally visited him as a kid, but he was frequently drunk.
Despite their troubled relationship, Adele was ready to reconcile with him after becoming famous until she realized that he had been secretly giving private information to tabloids and selling her childhood pictures to them.
Now her relationship with her dad is not so good.
- Mischa Barton
The O. C star Mischa Barton has always had a fraught relationship with her mom. The height of it was seen in 2015 when she sued her mom for “scheming” and secretly siphoning her royalties.
According to Mischa, her mom was a greedy talent manager who acted like she was acting in her daughter’s best interest but schemed both her and clients and defrauded them both.
- Jay-Z
American rapper Jay-Z revealed that his father left when he was young.
According to an interview with Opera in 2009, several years later, after Jay-Z became famous, his father came back and wanted to mend things up with the successful rapper.
- Mariah Carey
According to award-winning songstress Mariah Carey, her mother subjected her to significant neglect as a child.
She had a toxic relationship with her mother, who was often jealous of her. After becoming famous, her mother grew interested in her only because she needed money and wanted to ask for favors.
Who else notices that this seems to be a trend among men, at least from the stories above, and yes, women are not innocent either; they seem to have greed issues.
Investing in your offspring is one of the best investments you can make in life because they tend to pay off from the stories just shared.
So, Kudos to all the single mom and dads out there; keep doing a great job.
