Tony Tetuila and Tic drags Wizkid to court seeking N30m in damages
Sunday Anthony Awotoye popularly known as Tony Tetuila has taken Wizkid to court over copyright infringement of their song.
Tetuila and Tic dragged Wizkid and Dj tunes to the federal high court sitting in Lagos on the 26th of August 2019.
In the court document, Tetuila and Tic alleged that they are the rightful owners of the musical composition and “lyrics” used in Wizkid’s sound recording titled “Gbese”.
They further said Wizkid reproduced their musical composition and lyrics without obtaining authorisation.
The plaintiffs are urging the court to order the defendants to pay the plaintiffs N30million as general damages, or in the alternative, an order for the defendants to account for all revenues that have accrued or been received by the defendants resulting from the direct or indirect exploitation of the sound recording Gbese containing the plaintiffs copyright works, and to pay the plaintiffs no less than thirty five percent (35%) of such revenues.
The sound recording Wizkid allegedly reproduced without authorisation is their 2004 song titles Fefe Ne Efe.
