The former president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe is dead.

This was announced in a tweet on the official twitter account of the President of Zimbabwe.

He was 95.

Who is Robert Mugabe?

Mugabe was the Zimbabwe President from 1987 to  2017.

He fought for Zimbabwe independent and was imprisoned for ten years in 1964, after he was convicted for making anti-government comments.

He was released from prison in 1974, becoming the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe in 1980.

Robert was the Prime minster till 1987 before he was declared the President of Zimbabwe.

Mugabe was widely criticised for seizing lands owned by white owners without compensation. 

Meanwhile a high court in Zimbabwe eventually ruled that the seizure of the lands were illegal, this didn’t stop Mugabe from the invasion of lands owned by White farmers.

The seizing of Lands in Zimbabwe affected the Agricultural development in Zimbabwe.

His Administration eventually came to an end in 2017 after he was sacked as the leader of ZANU-PF.

His former vice president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, whom was sacked two weeks before Mugabe was removed as the leader of ZANU-PF replaced him as the leader.

The former Zimbabwean leader was hospitalised in April after his health was deteriorating.

He died on the 6th of September 2019.
