Shemar Franklin Moore was born April 20, 1970, in Oakland, California, U.S. His mother, Marilyn Wilson, is an Irish and French-Canadian business consultant, while Sherrod Moore was an African-American.
He grew up in Denmark, where his mother worked as a Mathematics teacher before moving to Bahrain at the age of four, where he attended a British private school.

In 1977, due to civil unrest and racism, his mother moved to Chico, California with him, where she worked at a clinic; they later relocated to Palo Alto, where Moore graduated from Gunn High School.

Throughout his four years there, he played varsity baseball as both a pitcher and an outfielder. Moore graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and a minor in Theatre Arts.

Shemar Moore landed his first professional role in 1994 on the television series “The Young and the Restless,” where he played “Malcolm Winters” for eight years.
In 2001, he became the host of the syndicated version of the series “Soul Train,” which he hosted till 2003. Later on, he made an appearance in the film “The Brothers” and later landed a recurring role as Detective Jesse Reese on “Birds of Prey.”
In 2004, he was cast in “Motives” as Emery Simms and subsequently landed a supporting role in the film “Diary of a Mad Black Woman.”
Moore also made an appearance in the romantic comedy “The Seat Filler.”
In 2005, he landed a recurring role of Derek Morgan in “Criminal Minds,” however, he left the series in 2016, after appearing in 11 seasons, the following year 2017, Moore landed a role in C.B.S.’s series S.W.A.T., which soon became one of his well-known roles.

The series was renewed for a fourth season in 2020. While acting, Shemar Moore had a career in modeling as well. His modeling career, which began in his college years, progressed over the years.
