Gbenga Daniel, Born on 6 April 1956, is an entrepreneur, politician, and former two-time governor of Ogun State of Nigeria, from 29 May 2003 to 29 May 2011. He spent most of his childhood in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Education
Daniel attended Baptist boys high school, Abeokuta, and received his Advanced level (A’ level) at the polytechnic of Ibadan before proceeding to the University of Lagos, where he received an Engineering degree.
Otunga Gbenga Daniel – Career
After graduating from the University of Lagos, Daniel lectured briefly at the Lagos state polytechnic school of engineering and later worked as an engineer with Schroader (W.A) Limited Lagos.
As an ambitious businessman, Daniel worked his way up to become the deputy managing director of the company.
He founded an engineering firm, “Kresta Laurel,” in 1990. The company specialized in elevators.

Otunga Gbenga Daniel – Governor of Ogun State
He entered the Ogun state Gubernatorial race in 2002 and won the primaries under the people’s democratic party (PDP).
He was seen as the favorite by the media popularly known as OGD. He won the 2003 Governorship election defeating the sitting governor of the state Chief Olusegun Osoba with a wide margin. He received over 75% of people’s votes.
Otunba Daniel was inaugurated as the governor of the state on 29 May 2003, and the majority of people have well commended his administration.
Daniel was re-elected again in 2007, beating Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Life After Handing Over
Upon handing over, Otunba Daniel went back to managing his businesses. He continues his philanthropic organization that benefits youths in Ogun State.
Controversy
In his newspaper, a scandal was published, “Nigerian Compass,” that allegedly shows photos of Wale Alausa, a member of Ogun State house of Assembly, taking what the paper described as a blood oath.
The paper further revealed that the Oath is to ensure secrecy and unity between Otunba Daniel and Hon. Alausa.
