NANS Set To Protest School Feeding Program Amidst Lockdown

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has threatened to mobilize its members in Nigeria on a nationwide protest codename “mother of all protest” amidst lockdown.

The association said the protest would start if the Federal Government goes ahead with the proposed plan to spend N13.5 billion monthly on the school feeding program

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, Comrade Danielson Akpan said the program is a “misplaced priority” and a “discreet attempt to fleece the country of the hard-earned resources.”

Confirming the statement released by the National PRO of NAS, Comrade Azeez Adeyemi, about the association’s stand on the school feeding program, comrade Akpan said the announcement that we would commence a nationwide strike is a collective decision of Nigerian students and the association.

The Federal government had proposed N697 million on a daily school feeding program across the nation, but the association rejected the plan, costing taxpayers over N13.5 billion monthly.

“The progressive student movement of Nigeria, led by comrade Okereafor Bestman also queried the FG stand in proposing daily spending of N697 million during the time schools are closed.

Comrade Okereafor took social media to show his anger, calling the initiative a “misplaced priority.”

He said it’s alarming that the government could propose the program during the time students are in their respective homes.

Speaking further, comrade Okereafor who is also the immediate past National PRO of NANS, said his association would be joining NANS to condemn the program.
