Maria Escobar was born in 1961 in the southwestern region of Colombia, the Palmira Valle Del Cauca, to Carlos Henao Vellajo and Leonor Zuleta.
She grew up with her brother, Carlos Mario Henao Vallejo, her sister, and Pastora Henao. Maria had a flair for dancing while she was very young.
Maria Victoria Henao Personal Life
The young 13-year-old Maria met Pablo Escobar in 1974 through her brother Carlos who worked for Pablo.

Pablo made Maria feel like a fairy princess as he was her Prince charming. Maria’s family learned of Pablo’s criminal acts due to her brother’s involvement with Pablo.
Her family opposed their relationship first, but it didn’t stop their love as the couple resorted to eloping.
It happened when Maria was just 15 years old. At 16, Maria gave birth to their first child Juan Pablo Escobar on the 24th of February 1977 without any support from her parents.
Seven years later, she had her first daughter Manuela Escobar.
Maria Victoria Henao believed her husband was just a real estate businessman. They were happily married. So, when Maria found out that her husband was cheating on her, she did not leave him.
While many may think it was her unconditional love for him that made her overlook his infidelity, Virginia mentioned in her book that Maria enjoyed the lavish life, and she did not want to leave Pablo.
Life after pablo’s death
On the 2nd of December 1993, Pablo Escobar was murdered on a rooftop in Medellin by Colombian officers.
Upon investigation, the police could track his location because of a phone call he made to his wife.

After Pablo’s death, life got quite challenging for Maria. She had no support as she had deserted her family.
Pablo’s notorious reputation made it hard for Maria to settle down as she continually moved to save her family.
They also had to change their names. Her son and daughter were now known as Sebastian Marroquin and Juana Manuela Marroquin Santos.
Maria created a home in Argentina after changing her name to Maria Isabel Santos Caballero.
However, this didn’t last long as she and her son were apprehended in 1999.
She was arrested and charged with theft and money laundering, which she denied all allegations.
Maria and her son regained their freedom after 15 months due to insufficient evidence.
Her son works as an architect and a lecturer.
He also authored the popular book Pablo Escobar: My Father. Maria’s daughter cut all ties with the family.
Maria currently lives with her son and Pablo’s mother in an apartment in Buenos Aires.
