Ghana Politicians failed the music industry – Okyeame Kwame

In the country, politicians have failed the music industry for over two decades now; these are the exact words of legendary Ghanaian high-life musician Okyeame Kwame.

In an interview with Mustapha, the “rap doctor” disclosed that though a lot of things seem to have improved inside the music industry for a while now, the industry is a bit rigid.

The industry is not developing because “the musician has failed himself. 

The “made in Ghana” ambassador said the main reason for Ghana’s entertainment industry’s stiffness is because the corporate world doesn’t value the entertainer’s talent and the wrong perceptions about the entertainment sphere.

He also added that the Nigerian government was able to change the negative perceptions about their entertainment industry by helping build the industry that overshadows the ‘Sakawa’ internet fraud, otherwise known as “419,” which is adding up to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product to some extent.

“In Nigeria, I know that every year not less than 6 billion dollars is being invested in their entertainment industry. Initially, when you think of Nigeria the first thing that comes to mind is ‘419’, but today because their politicians have understood the role of Arts in the economy, they invest huge money into the industry which has increased their GDP tremendously,”
