FUOYE: Ekiti government to pay victims funeral and hospital bills

The Ekiti state governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has announced the state will pay the funeral of the victims killed and hospital bills of the injured by the police during a protest last week.

The students of Federal University Oye-Ekiti were protesting over power shortage in their school.

It was reported that the first lady of Ekiti’s convoy was blocked by the the students leading to the police using force on the students.

The convoy was passing where the students were protesting, to disperse them, the police allegedly opened fire killing two.

The student in return attacked the convoy setting the police van on fire and the office of the Benin electricity distribution company.

Meanwhile Ekiti police spokesperson DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, in a statement denied that the police killed any student during the protest.

He said the students attacked the convoy of the wife of Ekiti state governor.

The Management of the Federal University Ote-Ekiti has shut down the institution indefinitely following the protest.

The Management also prohibit the student union indefinitely.

In a statement released to the media on Tuesday night, The management said due to the unruly behaviour of students, the management resolved as follow;
