In an exclusive interview with UK based Nigerian blogger, Dakingsman, Comrade Olatunji Adegboye narrated his ordeal at the hand of the management of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro.
Adegboye’s story first went viral after being caught and arrested wearing what many believe symbolizes his membership and participation in a campus cult.
9th February 2020 was just like many other faithful days apart from the news of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro SUG president’s arrest.
Higher National Diploma year two student of the Polytechnic was paraded in front of the press immediately after his arrest and spent over five days in police custody without being charged to court.
Adegboye revealed that he was drugged the day he was arrested and couldn’t remember anything until the day. He also said he couldn’t remember being paraded by the police.
Popular among the students, Adegboye is a born-again Christian, often described as a quiet, friendly promising young man.
Talking about his arrest, the embattled former SUG president revealed that he was attacked and drugged while he was on his way to the church.
Born in Osun state to a Christian family, Adegboye was admitted to the Polytechnic in 2014 shortly after leaving secondary school. He further revealed that he has been fighting the school authorities, the vigilantes, and the landlord association over the recent insecurities and hike in school and house fees as the SUG president of the Polytechnic, representing the student.
He said he believed he was set up by the vigilante group after confronting them during a meeting about the insecurities around the school campus affecting students directly.
After the meeting, Adegboye alleged that he was threatened by one of the vigilante group members.
He caused a scare on Saturday 20th June 2020 after leaving a suicide message on his Facebook handle, which prompted family and friends’ reactions.
Talking about the suicide message, Adegboye said
“He thought killing himself was the only option as he hasn’t only lost his years of Education, but he is also facing years behind bars.”
With the hope of winning his case at the court, Adegboye has also been appealing to the polytechnic management to give him his national diploma certificate to evaluate his options.
