Diezani losses $40m seized jewelleries to the FG – Court rules

A Federal hight court sitting in Lagos has ordered the federal government to confiscate Diezani Alison-Madueke jewelries seized by the EFCC.

Granting the petition, the presiding judge, justice Nicholas Oweibo said the counsel had not shown why the jewelries seized should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

The former minister of petroleum resources under former president jonathan administration, Diazani Alison-Madueke had challenged the forfeiture of her $40million jewellery seized by the anti grant agency.

In the court documents, Alison-Madueke accused the agency of taking the jewelries illegally as they entered into her apartment without any court order.

She wanted the court to order EFCC to release her seized jewelleries and to reject EFCC appeal to permanently forfeit the jewelries. 

The anti graft agency had secured an interim order to seize Alison-Madueke’s jewelries. 

EFCC said the jewelries were acquired from accrued through money laundering and stealing of government funds while in office.

The anti graft agency seized 33 sets of expensive jewelries, from an expensive pendants to necklaces and earrings, and a customised gold iPhone all which were valued at $40million.
