Michael Bakari Jordan was born in Santa Ana, California, on the 9th day of February 1987 to Donna, a caterer, and Michael A. Jordan, a high school guidance counselor.
When he turned 2, Jordan moved with his family to New Jersey, where he spent many of his childhood. His siblings include two brothers, Jamila and Khalid, who signed up to be football players at Howard University in 2010.

Jordan attended Newark Arts High School in New Jersey, where his mother worked.
There, he joined the basketball team. In a later interview, he talked about Newark being a tough place to grow up in, including having friends who stole things and sold drugs.
