Amosun surrenders 1000 AK47 riffles acquired before election

The immediate past governor of Ogun State, Senator. Ibikunle Amosun allegedly purchased 1000 AK47 Rifles and atleast 4 million bullets before the 2019 general Election.

Major media in Nigeria is reporting that the former governor surrendered atleast 1000 AK47 AND 4 million bullets to the Ogun state commissioner of police, Bashir Makama.

According to Premium times, the immediate past governor of the state had confessed of possessing thousands of arms and millions of ammunition with 1000 units of bulletproof vests and armoured personnel carrier (APC) stored in a secret armoury in the Government house.

It is a crime in Nigeria for any civilian institution to operate armouries or military rifles. however, Senator Amosun hasn’t been arrested or indicted of violating the firearms Act of Nigeria constitution.

We made numerous call to the commissioner of police Ogun State about the allegation levelled against the immediate past governor of the state and newly elected Senator but all to no response.

The Spokesperson for the Nigeria Customs service, Mr. Joseph Attah told Premium times that weapons can never be imported into Nigeria without end-user certificates.

Nigeria Produces its own version of AK47 called OBJ-006.

Nigeria also produces Armoured personnel carrier (APC) in Ogun State and also bullet proof vests among others
