After elementary school, his mother moved him and his sister to Tucson, Arizona, where he continued his education.
Tony attended Amphitheatre High School in Tucson and joined the basketball team there.
He had to work two jobs to support his family and only began to pursue his dream at the age of 34 when he enrolled at the Poynter Institute to study reporting.

Career
While doing his master’s, Tony received an offer to be an intern at PBS News.
He worked as a reporter for the company, assisted the anchors and journalists in crafting new stories, and also handled new schedules.
After his internship, he moved to Washington, D.C., to work as a producer at Cox Broadcasting. He also worked as an anchor and reporter for other media companies before joining ABC Network.
Tony worked on the show Good Morning America and became a household name soon afterward.
He spent quite several years at ABC Network before deciding to join print media. He then worked with The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, and The Huffington Post.
