Bryson Lashun Potts, known by the stage name NLE Choppa, was born on November 1, 2002, to a Jamaican mother and a Nigerian father.
NLE grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, where he attended Cordova High School. He started freestyling with his friends at the age of 15.
While in high school, NLE played basketball; however, at the age of 16, he dropped out to pursue a music career.
His mother, Angela Potts, was supportive of his career choice and became his manager.

NLE Choppa’s music career officially began in March 2018 with the release of his debut single ‘No Love Anthem’, which was released under his stage name “YNR Choppa ”.
He soon switched to the stage name NLE Choppa, with NLE representing his brand “NO Love Entertainment”.
Subsequently, he released his breakout single, ‘Shotta Flow’ which brought him into the limelight by recording over 15 million views within six weeks.
The song also peaked at number 33 on the ‘Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and 81 on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’.
The same year, NLE released the sequel ‘Shotta Flow 2’, which was equally successful, hitting 20 million views in two months.
The success of these singles led to a bidding war for NLR Choppa between popular record labels such as ‘Caroline Records,’ ‘EMPIRE Distribution,’ ‘Republic,’ and ‘Interscope.’
At the end of the day, the rapper turned down a $3 million record deal for a distribution partnership deal with Steve Stoute’s independent distribution company, ‘United Masters’.
In 2019, he released his EP, Cottonwood, featuring American rapper Meek Mill.
This was later followed by his first studio album, titled ‘Top Shotta’, in 2020.
The album released under Warner Records peaked in the top ten of the US Billboard 200, with songs like ‘Camelot’ and ‘Walk Em Down’, featuring Roddy Ricch, making the list.
That same year, in November, NLE Choppa released his first mixtape titled ‘From Dark to Light’.
The mixtape included cameos from stars like Big Sean and Ink and later debuted in Billboard’s Top 200 chart at number 115.
Subsequently, his commercial mixtape, ‘Me vs. Me, was released on January 28, 2022. In April 2023, NLE Choppa released his second studio album, Cottonwood 2.
The album contained singles like “In the U.K., “Champions,” and “Ain’t Gonna Answer,” featuring Lil Wayne.

NLE Choppa was previously in a relationship with Mariah Jones. However, in early 2020, Choppa indicated that he and Mariah had parted ways after dating for two years.
Mariah, who was pregnant at the time, later delivered a baby girl on June 20, 2020, named Clover Brylie Potts.
The rapper later began a relationship with Marissa Da’Nae. However, this ended quite quickly too.
On March 6, 2022, Choppa announced that he and his then-girlfriend, Marissa Da’Nae, had lost an unborn baby they were expecting due to a miscarriage.
