Early Life
Ackquille Pollard, known professionally as Bobby Shmurda, was born August 4, 1994, in Miami, Florida, to Gervase Johnson and Leslie Pollard.
He is of Trinidadian and Jamaican descent and has an elder brother named Javanese Pollard.
In 1995, just a year after his birth, his father was sentenced to life imprisonment following an attempted murder.
His mother later moved to the East Flatbush area of Brooklyn. As a child, Shmurda suffered from attention deficit disorder (ADD) and would often run out of his classes.
However, his love for music began from quite a young age; in 2004, at just ten years old, he remixed his first song, “Knuck If You Buck” by Crime Mob.
The talented rapper had a rough childhood as he began selling drugs from fifth grade due to the influence of his older brother and friends.
Hence he had several run-ins with the law, including being arrested on a gun charge and serving 15 months in detention.
According to his 2014 indictment, the rapper was the ringleader of “GS9”, a criminal enterprise involved in drug trafficking, non-fatal shootings, and murders.

Career
Bobby Shmurda’s music career officially began in 2014, following his song “Hot Nigga”.
For the track, he used Lloyd Banks’ “Jackpot” instrumental. For the music video, he performed his signature “Shmoney dance.”
Soon after its release on YouTube, Hot Nigga’s music video went viral and recorded over 2,000 views within a day.
This made him famous overnight, with his signature “Shmoney dance” becoming an internet meme and featured in numerous favorite Vines and used by celebrities like Beyoncé and Jay-Z Drake, among others.
The success of this single landed Shmurda a recording deal with “Epic Records.” ” Hot Nigga” was later officially released as his debut single under Epic Records. The song was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, and its music video recorded over 649 million views on YouTube.
Subsequently, a remix of Hot Nigga was released featuring the likes of Fabolous, Chris Brown, Jadakiss, Rowdy Rebel, Busta Rhymes, and Yo Gotti.
Shmurda later released “Bobby Bitch”, which was equally a success peaking at number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100. Finally, on November 10, 2014, he released his debut EP, “Shmurda She Wrote.”
Shmurda’s debut studio album was scheduled to be released in 2016; however, following his jail term, It was postponed.
In 2018, he was featured in 6ix9ine’s single “Stoopid,” He phoned in his verse over the prison telephone. The song was successful, peaking at number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100.
On July 23, 2021, Shmurda made his first performance appearance in Rolling Loud Festival, Miami, Florida, following his release from prison.
In September of the same year, he released “No Time for Sleep,” his first track since his release.

Personal Life
On June 3, 2014, Bobby Shmurda was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon; however, he got out with a bail of $10,000.
Later that year, in December, he was arrested alongside 14 others, including his brother, on charges of conspiracy to commit murder, reckless endangerment, drug and gun possession.
He pleaded not guilty and was given a bail of $2 million. Shmurda faced a jail term of 8–25 years for his charges.
In 2015, between June and July, the rapper alongside his ex-girlfriend Kimberly Rousseau was caught trying to smuggle a knife into Rikers Island jail.
Shurmda was convicted on September 2, 2016, and was sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Release
On February 23, 2021, the American rapper was released from jail under supervision by fellow community members in Kings County, New York.
However, he is under parole until his complete sentence on February 23, 2026.
