Where is Selena Gomez from?

Her father, Ricardo Joel Gomez, is of Mexican descent, and her mother, Amanda Dawn Cornett, is a former stage actress of Italian ancestry. She has two half-sisters, Gracie Elliot Teefay and Victoria Gomez.

Selena’s parents got divorced when she was five years old, and she stayed with her mother.

She was homeschooled and had her high school diploma in May 2010. Her interest in the entertainment world was stirred while she watched her mother prepare for stage productions.

She began auditioning for roles and landed her first role in the Barney and Friemsa series in 2002.

While she portrayed the character of Gianna on the series, she auditioned for other parts and was cast in the films Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over (2003) and Texas Rangers: Trial by Fire (2005).

Her role in Barney and Friends earned her $3,000 per episode. She later appeared as Mikayla in the Disney series Hannah Montana in 2007.

Subsequently, Selena appeared in the network series Wizards of Waverly Place, where she played the role of Alex Russo.

The film brought her into the limelight, and she also earned $30,000 for each episode of the series. After that, Selena and her mother decided to move to Los Angeles.

In 2004, Selena landed a lead role as Mary Santiago, an aspiring dancer in Another Cinderella Story. In addition, she released one song with her band Selena Gomez & the Scene, “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know.”

At the age of 18, she landed a deal with Hollywood Records, and the record label has already signed the likes of Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.
In 2008 Selena started her own production company, which she called July Moon Productions.

In 2009, she starred in Wizards of Waverley Place: The Movie, based on the series. Its premiere had an audience of 11.4 million viewers, which made it Disney’s second most-viewed film premiere.

The film also won an Emmy Award for “Outstanding Children’s Program.”
In 2012, Selena was cast in the animated movie Hotel Transylvania where she voiced over the character Mavis in the animation.

She worked as the executive producer for the Thirteen Reasons Why series based on the same title. In February 2019, she appeared in The Dead Don’t Die, a film by Jim Jarmusch.

In addition, she appeared on the HBO Max cooking show Selena +Chef. During the Covid-19 pandemic.

Selena formed the pip rock band Selena Gomez & the Scene; the group released its first album in 2009; it made its debut at number nine on Billboard 200 albums chart in the US, it had a sales of 66,000 copies in its first week.

Their second album was released in 2010, titled A Year Without Rain. Their third and final studio album was released in 2011.

She announced her break from music in 2012 and announced her intention to go solo.

Following this, her single debut “Come & Get” was released, later on, her second single, “Slow Down,” which had entries in the Billboard Hot 100.

She then decided to take a break and spend time with her family.
Later in 2014, she released a surprise single, “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” which recorded over one million copies.

Although, soon after that, she released her album “For You,” the album had a minimal promotion and wasn’t as successful as her other song.

As a result, she parted with Hollywood Records and signed with Interscope Records in December of the same year.

While working on her second album, she released a single with Zedd “I Want You To Know” and then “Good For You” featuring ASAL Rocky as the lead single in her second album in June 2015.

Her second album “Revival,” was released in October 2015. It received positive reviews and praises, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and selling 117,000 album units on the first week.

The album consisted of “Same Old Love,” “Good For You,” “Hands to Myself,” and others, the reoccurring number ones made by the songs, made her one of only six female artists to have three singles from the same album to too the chart.

In 2016, she collaborated with Charlie “Puth We Don’t Talk Anymore,” which soon reached the US top ten.

She was won the award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist. In February 2017, she featured DJ Kygi on the single “It Ain’t Me,” which reached the top ten on Billboards Hot 100.

In September 2018, she was featured on DJ Snake’s “Taki Taki” alongside Cardi B and Ozuna.

She later released her songs “Lose You to Love ME” and ” Look at Her Now,” She also collaborated with Colombian singer Camilo in the song “999”, which was released on August 27, 2021.

In 2012, Selena Gomez was diagnosed with lupus, and In September 2017, she revealed that she had received a kidney transplant from actress and friend Francis Raisa. Later, In April 2020, she said she had bipolar disorder.
