Patrick Dupond was born on March 14, 1959. His father left the family early; according to the former dancer, his childhood was modest and straightforward.
Growing up, Patrick was quite energetic; his mother, in other to channel his energy, enrolled him in a football club and then signed him up for judo classes, but Patrick soon abandoned all these activities.
However, he soon discovered his passion for dancing while watching a ballet class, so his mother enrolled him in a dance class.

His abilities in dancing were very remarkable, and his dance teacher advised his parents to enroll him in a higher-level dance class.
In 1967, his parents met Max Bozzoni, a former dancer at the Paris Opera Ballet. Max Bozzoni sensing the young boy’s talent, agreed to take over his training.
In 1968, Patrick had to stop school and dance activities temporarily; when he returned to school, he was a victim of ostracism from his classmates due to his status as a young dancer.

At the age of 10, Patrick got admitted to the Paris Opera Ballet in 1969, for the three months preparation course, which he passed the entrance test.
There, he trained as a classical dancer while taking private lessons with Bozzoni every evening.
He was also taught by the likes of Gilbert Mayer and lycée Racine in Paris.

At age 16, on March 14, 1975, Patrick became a member of the Paris Opera Ballet.
His achievement includes a gold medal which he won at the Varna International Ballet Competition in Bulgaria that same year, and he was named “Coryphée.”
Patrick then trained as a soloist and danced both at the Opera and international stages.
In December 1978, he was appointed as the premier danseur. A few years later, on August 30, 1980, Patrick was named danseur étoile, the highest rank in the company at the age of 21.
He also performed with famous ballet dancers who were his ballet partners, the likes of Françoise Legrée, Monique Loudières, among others.
In 1988, he was appointed the Artistic Director of the Ballet de Lorraine. Then, from 1990 to 1995, at the age of 31, Patrick was appointed the Director of the Paris Opera Ballet by Pierre Bergé.
He acted and danced in several films and worked with choreographers such as John Neumeier, Roland Petit, Yury Grigorovich, Alwin Nikolais, and Twyla Tharp, who gave him lead roles in works.

Patrick later created a group known as “Dupond et ses Stars,” which went on the world tour for two years.
The group members includes Fanny Gaida, Sylvie Guillem, Monique Loudières, Manuel Legris, Jean-Marie Didière and the pianist/conductor Elizabeth Cooper.
In January 2000, the French dancer was involved in a severe car accident. It forced him to rehabilitate physically and relearn dance.

Thanks to the help of his dance teacher Max Bozzoni, he resumed dance training and that same year returned to the stage with the music theatre: L’air de Paris at the Espace Pierre Cardin.

He also performs in Soissons and Saint-Quentin, Aisne. In August 2017, he, alongside Leïla Da Rocha, announced an international dance school in Bordeaux.
