Celebrities are often idealized by fans, forgetting that they are just people too.
Some stars had a terrible childhood, you would be surprised what they went through, but despite that, they have made a good name for themselves with millions of fans who love and adore them.
Today we are looking at some celebrities whose childhood was not so good, but they turned out great.
Musicians Who Had A Rough Childhood
- 50 Cent
Curtis James Jackson III, popularly known as 50 Cents, was born and raised in the South Jamaican neighborhood of Queens, New York City. His mother, Sabina, was a drug dealer.
When the rapper was eight years old, she died in a mysterious fire. Shortly after, his dad left, leaving 50 Cent in the care of his grandmother.
At the age of 12, 50 Cent was already following his late mother’s footsteps and dealing drugs. He was arrested in tenth grade for possession of the gun and drug money.
After many more arrests after that incident, the rapper decided to turn his life around and become a rapper.
- Nicki Minaj
Onika Tanya Maraj, known as Nicki Minaj, was also born and raised in Queens. Her father was a financial executive and a part-time gospel singer who was addicted to alcohol and drugs.

Her father reportedly had a violent temper, which made him burn down the family house. Fortunately, no life was lost. Nicki’s mother narrowly escapes with her life.

Marshall Mathers, known professionally as Eminem, spent his childhood moving around various relative’s houses with his mother.
Growing up in a predominantly black neighborhood, Eminem was often beaten up and targeted by bullies.
He tried to reach out to his father countless times but was rejected. The rapper worked several jobs to support his mother, but she often threw him out of the family home after taking his paycheck.

Christina’s dad was a military man, so this required her family to move around frequently.
The pop singer claimed that her father abused her, her younger sister, and her mother, physically and emotionally.
Her parents later got divorced, the two siblings and their mother moved in with their grandmother. Although Her mother later remarried and had another child.

Her family struggled financially while growing up. Rhianna helped her dad sell clothes at the local street market to make ends meet.

Adding to the strain, Rihanna’s father’s expensive alcohol and crack cocaine habit wasn’t helping, plus he was abusive and would often beat up her mother. Fortunately, the singer rose to stardom at the age of 15.

At the age of two, she witnessed her parent’s separation. Her mother remarried Jerry Twain, who adopted her and her siblings. Shania’s household was poor, with money and food being scarce.
At the age of eight, she started singing in local bars to help bring in money and spent time working for her father’s reforestation business.

At the age of ten, Taylor was abused sexually by an older friend. His mother raised the heavy metal singer in Iowa, and they lived in an old, dilapidated farmhouse.
At the age of 15, Taylor had developed a severe cocaine habit, leading to him being overdosed twice. At 18 years, he attempted suicide but failed.
Despite how traumatizing his childhood was, Corey Taylor became the biggest name in heavy metal music.
