Saleh advised the South west governors to push for state police instead of supporting the security outfit codename Amotekun.

It is best they give up on this idea because it may affect the chances of the South-West to produce the President in 2023 he stated.

This came shortly after Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde condemned the attorney General of  Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami decision to declare Amotekun illegal.

Makinde said the Attorney general’s duties are limited to interpreting laws.

Makinde further said the attorney general office didn’t contact him or any other south west governors about the decision, urging the public to regard the statement credited to the attorney general as rumours.

The AGF cannot just wake up and make his own laws he said.

Subsequently, the Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu in an interview on Channels Television said AGF’s job is to interpret laws.

He said;

One thing is clear, laws are not made in the office of the Attorney General;

he can only interpret the laws and give positions of government on matters relating to the law.

When he comes out with relevant portions of the law on the matter, we will consider it and respond adequately as the law stipulates.

We have not met, but I can assure you that when we meet, we will adequately respond to the position of the AGF.
