The students of Federal University Oye-Ekiti were protesting over power shortage in their school
It was reported that the first lady of Ekiti’s convoy was blocked by the the students.
The convoy was passing where the students were protesting, to disperse them, the police allegedly opened fire killing two.
The student in return attacked the convoy setting the police van on fire and the office of the Benin electricity distribution company.
Meanwhile Ekiti police spokesperson DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, in a statement denied that the police killed any student during the protest.
He said the students attacked the convoy of the wife of Ekiti state governor.
The Management of the Federal University Ote-Ekiti has shut down the institution indefinitely following the protest.
The Management also prohibit the student union indefinitely.
In a statement released to the media on Tuesday night, The management said due to the unruly behaviour of students, the management resolved as follow;
That the university is shut down indefinitely with immediate effect.
Students are therefore ordered to vacate the university premises on or before on Wednesday, Sept 11, 2019.
The students union is hereby proscribed indefinitely.
The management further said the institution is bold enough to say the University hostel have been having regular power supply.
