Five police officer killed in Abuja during Shites protest
Police said no fewer than five police officers were killed during a protest over the continuous detention of SHEIKH ZAKZAKY.
The eruption of violence this afternoon claimed the life of the deputy commissioner of police, FCT Police command, Mr. Usman Umar and four others.
The protesters claimed the police used live bullets on them, killing many.
The Protesters marched to the Federal Secretariat in Abuja where vehicles were set on fire.
How did it get here?
SHEIKH ZAKZAKY is the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), known as Shi’ite.
He was Arrested by the Nigerian Army in his house on the 13th of December 2015.
During the arrest, Zakzaky’s son, Sayyid Aliyu and many members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) were killed, according to reports.
The Nigerian army said he was arrested in response to an assasination attempt by his followers on the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai.
During the Pro-Palestinian rally in July 2015, 34 protesters were reportedly killed by the Nigerian soldiers, three undergraduate sons of Zakzaky were among those killed.
The Nigerian army said the motorcade transporting Lt General Tukur Buratai was blocked by members of Shi’ite before troops responded with force.
