INEC’s deputy director bagged 6 years jail term

Auwal jibrin who was a deputy director for the independent national electoral commission (INEC) was convicted on Friday the 28th of june 2019 in Jigawa state high court.

He was convicted with Garba Ismaila of the same charges.

In a statement released by the EFCC, He was investigated alongside his accomplice of $115,010,000 given to them by Alison-Madueke during the 2015 presidential election.

They were charged by the EFCC on six count charge of unlawful enrichment and gratification, and pleaded not guilty to the charges. This led to a full trial.

Presiding over the case, Justice Yusuf Birnin-Kudu said the defence team failed to counter the evidence presented by the prosecution through its witnesses.

The court hereby found the first defendant guilty as charged on count two, and sentenced to seven years in jail.

The second defendant who was the deputy director of INEC was found guilty as charged on count one and three, and sentenced to six years imprisonment.

The court found the defendants not guilty on the remaining charges.

The Money and properties recovered during the investigation were confiscated apart from a three bedroom flat at 1 Hadeja Road, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State
